Ezra Klein: How Blue Cities became so Outrageously Unaffordable

In Ezra Klein’s recent podcast, they discuss the serious housing and homelessness crisis in traditionally progressive cities in the U.S. This has resulted in limits on housing and infrastructure projects because of processes that “are put in place to create delays…because the delay runs up the cost on the developers or the governments so much that it no longer makes sense to build affordable things”. These delays create lack of supply, which leads to the housing crisis in Denver and other progressive cities. They point out that our public policy prioritizes the inconveniences of the few over projects that would provide broad benefits for the community.  Mr. Klein points out that “one of the best things you can do to address climate change is density” yet many progressives leverage environmental laws to stop this from happening. Click below to learn more.
